Roles define what users and teams can see and do across the platform. Kapptivate provides default system roles and lets you create custom roles tailored to your workspace needs. Each role is a collection of permissions grouped by feature area, and you can combine multiple roles on a single user or team.

## What you can do

- **[Permissions](/administration/roles/permissions)**: understand how permission groups, dependencies, and restrictions shape what a role can grant.
- **[Create and edit roles](/administration/roles/create)**: view default roles, create custom roles with specific permissions, and modify existing ones.
- **[Assign roles](/administration/roles/assign)**: give users and teams the roles they need to access the right features.

Once your roles are configured, head to [Users](/administration/users) to assign them, or review your [Security Policies](/administration/security-policies) to set authentication requirements alongside your access controls.
